Police get court order to bar Anwar from holding rally
By RASHITHA A. HAMID

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have obtained a court order barring Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his supporters and members of he public from holding any rally or participating in it within a five-kilometre radius from Parliament Monday.

Magistrate Nazran Mohd Sham of the Kuala Lumpur Session Court issued the ex-parte order after considering an application from Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sofian Md Yassin.

The order stated that the Anwar was planning to hold a rally at 10am Monday to support a no- confidence motion scheduled to be tabled in Parliament against the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Starting at 7am Monday, all roads leading to Parliament would be cordoned off to members of the public.

It was also stated in the order that ACP Sofian had not received any application from any party applying for a permit to hold a rally.

At a press conference on Sunday, ACP Sofian said copies of the order were printed immediately after it was obtained and placed in public places to notify people.

He said although roadblocks had been set-up in several places in the district, the public could still continue with their daily routines.

Most major roads leading to the city were congested after police launched 'Ops Padam' from 2pm on Saturday at 12 entry points, causing much inconvenience to the public.

The roadblocks are expected to continue until midnight on Monday or until further notice.

* Since petang ni polis dah start buat roadblock jalan-jalan menuju ke Parlimen since petang ni. Do they know something we people dont know? Maybe ramai MP BN yang nak sokong motion yang dibawa PR ni? Ntah lah kita tunggu lah esok. Aku just kesian pada org-org yang akan terperangkap dalam jam esok pagi. Dan tentu jalan ke parlimen tu antara main road org nak masuk KL. Rakyat jugak yang merana.
